Fans weren’t expecting one villager to announce their departure from the Dales
Emmerdale fans expressed that they were upset after Mary Goskirk informed Rhona that she’ll be leaving the village for a while.
Mary Goskirk has been a regular in the Dales since 2022, and fans watched as Suzy became her confidante when she came out and tried to navigate the world of dating. Suzy was also a massive support when Mary fell for con woman Faye after she scammed her out of thousands of pounds.
Earlier this year, the Valentine’s limo crash claimed the lives of three villagers – Suzy Merton, Amy Wyatt and Leyla Harding.
As the ITV soap aired a special episode that showed Leyla walking in on three villagers secrets, one of them was Mary and Suzy sharing a kiss after the latter informed Mary of her feelings for her.
After Suzy’s sudden death, it seemed as though her secret would be taken to the grave particularly once Leyla was also confirmed dead.
In true soap form, however, Vanessa found texts on Suzy’s phone talking about breaking up with her and how she had kissed someone else.
Determined to find out who the other woman was, Vanessa set out to look for answers. Later, she found Mary’s bracelet under the sofa and realised that she was the culprit.
Heading into the Woolpack with Rhona by her side, Vanessa confronted Mary in front of everyone, who had no choice but to admit it. Although she tried to defend her actions as “just one kiss” a distraught Vanessa threw a drink over her before leaving in tears.
With Mary struggling to make amends with a grieving Vanessa, she told Rhona during Wednesday’s (April 2) episode that she needed to go away “for a while” and was heading down to Brighton to visit Vivienne to give Vanessa some space.
Fans took to social media to document their reaction over the sudden exit. On X (formerly known as Twitter), @GilbyPPPP wrote: “Oh my days Mary best not be gone for too long! I’ll miss @Lou_Jameson in #Emmerdale”
@notacIue asked: “is Mary really going?? I love her” as @MorelandJo added: “They always seem to get rid of brilliant older female characters. Remember Val and Fay? I loved them both.”
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
